LINED. — the line is data
On the page
Drag down
Draws a coverage line for the setup you have selected. It lands exactly where you draw it — down the margin or straight over the dialogue. Ticks cap it automatically.
Wavy · W
Flip it part way through a stroke and the rest goes wavy — heard, not seen.
Scene range · R
Drag the left margin to mark where a scene starts and ends. Coverage is measured inside it.
Erase · E
Tap a line to remove it.
Lanes · L
Off by default. On, lines snap into tidy columns down the margin.
Pencil only
Ignores finger and palm. Rest your hand on the glass.
Line color
One per camera angle, set on the Setup card. 24 colors, or add your own.
Rolling and takes
Space
Roll and cut. Cutting logs the take against the setup you are lining.
C · X
Circle or NG the last take.
S · N
New setup · new scene.
More than one camera
List them on the Setup card — A, B. Each take then gets a circle button per camera.
Pickups and series
+ Pickup on the LOG tab numbers them 3PU, or 3A and 3B.
Timecode
Type the slate TC on any take. The ALE export uses it. Show the TC and Roll columns from Columns.
Photos
The + on any take row, or the Photo column in the log. Attached to that take. Tap to enlarge and caption.
What LINED. checks
Coverage
It reads the script text inside each scene range and reports every line with nothing through it — while you are still on the floor. This is the part no other app does.
Gaps panel
Shows what it found. Drag it anywhere, or dock it into a rail from Settings.
What comes out of a day
Lined pages
Print pages on the toolbar.
Facing pages
LOG tab. One page per scene — setups, takes, timings, continuity, and what had no coverage.
Editor's log
LOG tab. Every cell editable. + Column and + Row add your own.
Progress report
REPORT tab. Call, first shot, lunch, wrap, pages, setups, takes, ratio.
ALE
LOG tab. Editorial drops it straight into a bin. Set the frame rate on the DAY tab first.
Save file
LOG tab. The whole project, photos included, as a file you can keep.
Scripts and revisions
Open PDF · Open FDX
Load a real script. Final Draft files bring their scene list with them.
Revisions
Open the new pages and your lines move with the text they were drawn against. It tells you how many moved and how many it could not place — check those by hand.
Projects
A separate day or show, kept on this device. Use Save file for anything you would hate to lose.
Making it yours
The toolbar
Settings → Toolbar at — bottom, top, or floating, which you drag by the ✥ handle to sit anywhere over the page. Upright stands it on its side down an edge.
Adjust
Top bar. Drag panels to either rail or the bottom, drag the bars between them, drag column edges in the log.
Settings · ,
Layout, palette, handedness, interface size, page zoom, which tools show, and your own saved layouts.
Your layouts
Arrange everything, then Save this arrangement in the view menu. One per kind of day.
V · [ and ]
Cycle the view · grow or shrink the bottom band.
I/E and D/N
Type anything. What you type is remembered and joins the dropdown.
If something goes wrong

First: your day is not lost. Go to the Log tab and press Save file — that writes the whole project, continuity stills included, to a file you can keep.

If the app will not open at all: the pencil still works. Print the pages you need from any other device, and line them by hand. Nothing here is worth holding up a company for.

Then tell us. hello@lined.film — say what you were doing when it broke and roughly when.
